How to Care for Sponge Gourd
Sunlight: Sponge gourds are high demanding plants and need 6-8 hours of good sunlight. Terrace is the ideal growing location for them.
Watering: Water sponge gourds regularly so the soil stays moist. Remember turais can’t tolerate standing water, so avoid overwatering the plants.
Soil:Â Sponge gourds can grow in a variety of soils, but well-draining and fertile sandy-loam soil gives the best yield.
Fertilizer: Use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer to encourage growth in the plants. You can also use cow manure in the soil to nourish the plants.
Pests and Diseases: Powdery mildew, leaf blight, and leaf spot can affect the growth of the turai plants. So we advise you look for early signs of infection and use the appropriate pesticide to get rid of them.
Harvesting: Turais are ready to harvest after 70-80 days of sowing the seeds. You can easily store them in the refrigerator.
